In April, Premier Eva Aariak signed a memorandum with mining company Agnico-Eagle, who operate the Meadowbank gold mine near Baker Lake, to invest in mining-related curriculum for Nunavut high schools. Aariak has stated that since there are new job opportunities for Nunavummiut in the mining sector, schools should team up with companies to offer training.… Read more

 Interesting article from March 26th, 2012 on the termination of the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership Program (ASEP). This program ran from 2004 to March of 2012. Over 25 different projects, many which were mining-related, had received funding from this program, which had an annual budget of over $100 million.… Read more
