Recovered from original archival footage thanks to IBC, Amitturmiut was produced in Igloolik, Nunavut in the 1980s and 90s focused on traditional subjects by Paul Apak Angilik, Zacharias Kunuk, Simon Quassa, Jake Kadluk, Pauloosie Qulittalik, Julie Ivalu, Natar Ungalaaq, and Pacome Qulaut. Host: Julie Ivalu. Annie Kappianaq, Madeline Ivalu and Therese Qillaq discuss midwifery, taboos and proper procedures before, during and after pregnancy. Nurse Bob Vanause talks about expectant mothers visiting the hospital in Iqaluit during certain stages of pregnancy for health and safety reasons. Lucasi Ivvalu explains why expecting mothers have to go to Iqaluit to have babies.
