About
Donald Alfred Morin, B.A. is a Saulteaux, Cree, Métis filmmaker, writer, musician, actor, educator, and multidisciplinary artist based in Edmonton, Alberta, Treaty 6 Territory, Canada. For more than four decades, his work has explored Indigenous identity, oral storytelling, performance, spirituality, history, and the continuing relationship between Indigenous peoples and contemporary society.
This site presents a broad overview of Donald's creative life and ongoing work, including music, acting, filmmaking, theatre, writing, photography, experimental media, academic research, and community-based arts practice. It also features his curriculum vitae, acting demo reels, short films, experimental works, publications, and archival projects spanning over forty years.
Donald has worked extensively in theatre, dance, film, video, multimedia performance, education, and Indigenous cultural programming throughout Canada and internationally. His artistic practice combines dramatic storytelling with documentary, experimental cinema, oral history, and visual art, creating works that bridge Indigenous knowledge systems with contemporary filmmaking.
His original music, written between the early 1980s and the present, reflects the evolution of both his life and artistic voice. After overcoming the effects of childhood trauma and racism that affected his confidence as a young performer, music became an important part of his healing journey. Encouraged by his foster family through piano and guitar lessons beginning in 1969, he has continued writing and recording songs throughout his life. Today, many of those works have been digitally restored and are available through online music platforms, where they continue to reach listeners around the world.
Donald is currently completing two major feature film projects. The first, AS A KODEN: TALKING STORY – WHO IS YOUR NAME? (kihcihkaw askî / Sacred Earth), is a dramatic feature exploring Indigenous identity, ceremony, memory, surveillance, and the enduring power of oral storytelling. The second, MÉTIS WINTER MORNING, is a feature film inspired by the lives of his parents and their experiences growing up in Alberta during the 1940s and 1950s.
Alongside these productions, Donald continues to write new plays, compose music, produce visual art, and develop interdisciplinary projects that explore Indigenous philosophy, language, spirituality, history, and contemporary life. His work remains grounded in community, collaboration, and the belief that storytelling has the power to preserve memory, encourage dialogue, and build understanding across cultures.
Donald is represented by Darryl Mork Talent for acting and performance opportunities and remains available for work as an actor, filmmaker, writer, director, lecturer, consultant, musician, and multidisciplinary artist.
