The seamstress has already marked her soles with tiny cuts in the middle lengthways and sideways. The middle marks length ways will tell her where to meet the toe part to the instep and the heel part to the back of the kamik. The sideway marks will tell her where to meet to the edges of the instep. She starts by choosing sinew made from narwhal for its strength and almost transparent color. She wants her stitches to be invisible. She starts the stitching at the edge of the instep and works her way towards the toe. She wants her stitches as small as possible, she starts stitching most similar to the blind hem stitch. Needling her stitch on top of the kamik and putting the needle on the very edge of the sole, poking once through the sole. This is called amukaktaqtuq and is used in all of sole sewing in kamiks.
