“I look up to the stars—and I wonder why.”
This new video presents a cover version of my original song, “Sky People: I Wonder Why,” created as part of the continuing film project *As a Koden: Talking Story—Who Is Your Name?*
More than a music video, it is a cinematic and poetic exploration of origin, ancestral memory, spirituality, and humanity’s enduring connection to the stars.
THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
The original song grew from curiosity and personal history. It was first inspired by a film about extraterrestrial visitors and written at the request of my partner at the time, who was fascinated by the Pleiades.
As the song developed, it became connected to my own family history. My older sister and I grew up hearing stories about the Sky People. They are not simply characters from science fiction; they are part of our family’s stories and our Aboriginal understanding of Creation and where we come from.
THE SEEKER’S JOURNEY
The video follows an Aboriginal seeker navigating the shadows of the modern digital world. Through a “breaking and entering” motif, he enters hidden archives and searches through fragments of information about the Anunnaki, Nibiru, the Pleiades, Orion, and the Sky People remembered within Indigenous oral histories.
This is not presented as a final answer. It is an artistic search—a journey through memory, belief, alternative histories, and the mysteries that have inspired humanity for generations.
THE LAND, SKY, AND FOUR ELEMENTS
Although the seeker looks toward the stars, his feet remain firmly upon the land. The film honours the four elements of Creation:
EARTH—the foundation holding the memories of our ancestors.
AIR—the breath that carries our songs and prayers.
WATER—the source of life and a mirror reflecting the heavens.
FIRE—the spark of truth and the desire to ask, “Why?”
Above them is the sky—the great roof over our earthly home and a source of guidance, mystery, and wonder.
SPIRITUAL PROTECTION
The seeker’s journey requires discernment, courage, and spiritual grounding. The Armor of God and the shield of faith protect the mind from confusion and the heart from fear as he considers profound questions:
Where did we come from?
What knowledge did our ancestors carry?
Who are the guardians of the infinite sky?
ARTISTIC VISION
This experimental film uses media transference and convergence, moving between analogue memories, digital discoveries, time-lapse photography, archival imagery, and visions of deep space.
By bringing Indigenous spirituality, family history, biblical protection, and cosmic mystery into conversation, *Sky People: I Wonder Why* becomes a “story song” for a new generation searching for meaning within a complex universe.
