George Wenzel, PhD, Cultural Ecologist on Inuit Hunting Practices
About
George introduces himself and talk about his area of research. He discusses Inuit hunting as a practice and a way of life. He states that hunting is a full-time job and wage employment conflicts with this in the Inuit mixed economy. He touches on traditional knowledge regarding animals versus game management laws from the south and the generosity of animals towards the hunter and how one’s attitude relates to being a good hunter. He states that hunting is such an integral part of the Inuit economy that without hunting, people are not likely to be very well off either materially or culturally.
