Program name: Nunatsiakmiut
Producer: Nunatsiakmiut Community Television Society / Nunatsiakmiut Film Society was launched in Frobisher Bay in 1975. This was the earliest Inuit filmmaking group in the Eastern Arctic. Nunatsiakmiut means ‘People From the Beautiful Land.’
Location: Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit)
Segment 1: Please help clean up Frobisher Bay – a call for community cleanup showing where garbage accumulates, people raking it up, and the dump.
Segment 2: Old photos from the 1930s by Peter Pitseolak – Kinngamiut (people of Cape Dorset).
Segment 3: A short film called “Magic Man” starring Timmun Alariaq (from Cape Dorset) depicting an Inuk man (shaman) chanting and doing various activities and movements.
The Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, established in Canada's territory of Nunavut, has been producing Inuit language video, by, for and about Inuit since 1981.
