Internship Opportunity with CBC at the imagineNATIVE Festival

We have an exciting and unique career-building opportunity for one Aboriginal youth (age 18-27) interested in gaining journalism skills at this year's imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival. Learn how to cover special events for one of Canada's learning news sources, and gain hands on training and invaluable job skills.

CBC is seeking two Aboriginal interns who will write about their experience at this year's imagineNATIVE Festival. Individuals will be selected to provide coverage of the 5 day festival (Oct. 14-18 in Toronto). The individual selected will work directly with a CBC News staff who will edit and oversee their work. They will be provided with all-access passes to the festival, and be assigned to cover special events and screenings at the festival. Interviews with artist will be arranged, and coverage will be posted daily on the CBC.ca/aboriginal website.

Film Snacks Competition, Discovery Channel and Planet in Focus International Environmental Film and Video Festival, Toronto
Deadline: September 18, 2009, 4PM

Feel there's an environmental story yet to be told? This is your chance to tell it! The Film Snacks Competition is a platform for the best of tomorrow's film-making talent, featuring compelling short-films that build on environmental themes. You could have your film screened on the BIG screen, TV, and online!

To enter, you must upload your short film (2 minutes or less) to designated page. Your submission must be based on an environmental theme. Judges will be basing their decision on production quality (video and audio), creativity and entertainment value and choice of topic. The winning film will also air on Discovery HD, and will be featured on DiscoveryChannel.ca.

Sweet 16: A 16MM Celebration, Cinevic
Deadline: September 25, 2009, 2:30PM

Your film must have been shot on 16mm film and be no longer than 20 minutes in length. The film may be of any kind and the official release date may be anytime within the previous 16 years. Priority will be given to works that can be screened from a 16mm print, but we will accept exhibition copies on MiniDV or DVD. Submission is open to any person residing in Canada.

Anti-Hero, Trinity Square Video Themed Commission Program, TSV, Toronto

TSV continues our trilogy of Themed Commissions: Icon, Villain and Anti-Hero, inspired by classic film archetypes. We are now seeking proposals for the final program in the trilogy, Anti-Hero, which will premiere in early 2010.

Anti-Hero explores the complex characterizations of contemporary narratives: it is a program that deals with shifting lines between the good and the bad. TSV is looking for proposals for 5 to 7 minute videos that engage with these flawed characters. We are looking for works that acknowledge the Anti-Heroes that we know.

On Main is proud to present The Barbarian, a new exhibition by Dana Claxton. The Barbarian is a life-size photo-tryptch inspired by a narwhal tusk loaned to the artist. She received it shortly after the whale had given its life to the community. The Barbarians took shape from researching the narwhal and the tusk. The outcome is a creation of a work that collapses contemporary barbarians search of natural man and natural law.

Dana Claxton is an interdisciplinary artist creating works in film, video, photography, installation and performance.

Looking for Cast & Crew from Northern Ontario, Burk's Falls

We're getting ready to shoot a feature film called "Running Mates" in late September and we're looking for any cast and crew that were born and/or raised in Northern Ontario. Anywhere North of (and including) Parry Sound qualifies. Ideally, we're looking for experienced crew, but we're open to anyone who's ever been on a set and even film students.

We will be shooting in a small town called Burk's Falls, about a half hour North of Huntsville. Anyone with family or place to stay in the area will be given hugs and kisses as well as a job.

Canada Media Fund Wants to Hear from You, Toronto

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is holding open Focus Group sessions to obtain input from its stakeholders into the policies and programs of the funding agency. Discussions at the Focus Group will centre on a number of key policy issues that must be addressed prior to the April 1, 2010 launch date of the new organization.

The CMF will provide funding support to Canadian companies that create television and digital interactive content. Focus Group sessions will be held across the country and a specific session will be held to focus on Aboriginal-language production on September 30 in Vancouver.
