Homage To Surfacing The Thames
About
Synopsis: Surfacing The Thames was an experimental film by experimental filmmaker David Rimmer. He was my first 16mm film teacher at SFU 1983, and I appreciated his work and support as a young film student of that decade. He took a strip of film and rephotographed it numerous times to create the lengthen work that it is today. Here I took a 10 second excerpt from the Archives of Manitoba Film Library and extended it to what it is now. A slow motion crossing of First Nations in a canoe, which is matted over a 35 mm photo still I created in 1995 with Actors who were working with me with Filmmaker Lyell Thomson. This work is done with respect to the on-going struggles of our people and the work of us aboriginal media artists today. We have so much more work to do too. Audio is from When Spirit Whispers Archives of audio created by Gunargie O'Sullivan and myself as we worked with our community. The flv file will show the people in the canoe cross the screen as the audio shares sounds of our people. Miigweech, all my relations
