EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

JOB TITLE: PROJECTS AND POLICIES ANALYST

WORKPLACE: 95 rue de l’Ours, Wendake, QC G0A 4V0

DURATION: One-year contract (with the possibility of extension)

SALARY: A basic salary of $46,634 according to FNEC salary scale

START DATE: October 4, 2010

WORK DESCRIPTION:
Under the immediate supervision of Management, the Projects and Policies Analyst is in charge of producing documents of professional advice and analyses as well as various reports relating to procedures in positioning, research and development in First Nations education.

MAIN FUNCTIONS:
Research and development activities:
• Keep abreast of literature, policies, programs, recent developments and practices relating to education at large and First Nations education in particular.
• Carry out research and studies, develop procedures on all aspects relating to education and to the mandates of the Educational services department of the FNEC.
• Elaborate and collaborate in developing new services projects in education.
• Elaborate and collaborate in setting up research protocols and consultations as required.
• Participate in the realization of research projects and consultations.
• Carry out statistical and/or comparative studies on various subjects including workshops and conferences and make recommendations.

Writing activities:
• Write the guidelines for programs and policies in education, as per the mandates obtained.
• Write papers and any other type of documents or reports presenting the FNEC’s positions. These documents must be precise, thoroughly documented and well-grounded, complete and convincing, well structured, clear and professional, and be free of writing mistakes.
• Assist the Educational services department in writing didactical material, flyers or presentation material.

Facilitator activities:
• Collaborate with the Educational services department in stimulating the exchange of ideas and information between the various member communities.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Hold at least a Master’s degree in Education sciences or in a relating domain and have a minimum of ten years of experience in research and development in education.
• Very good knowledge of one of the two official languages of Canada (English or French), as a second language, for purposes of analyzing documents, orally or in writing communicating complex information and intervening in various situations.
• Good functional knowledge of word and data processing software.
• Good knowledge and comprehension of files relating to First Nations education.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional travelling required locally, except when certain services are requested.

PERSONAL SKILLS:
• Excellent analysis and writing skills, and ability to summarize.
• Good judgment, flexibility and initiative-oriented.
• Autonomy, particularly concerning the development of his/her ongoing documents and files.
• Communication skills (good listener, speaker and ability to write in a clear, pondered and timely manner).
• Ability to manage stress, meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.
