New Land 2013 Expedition Summary

In March 2013 American John Huston, Norwegian Tobias Thorleifsson, Canadian Hugh Dale-Harris, and South African Kyle O’Donoghue, an expedition videographer, will traverse 630 miles on Ellesmere Island in the Canadian High Arctic. Powered by wind, muscle, and four canine skijoring companions the expedition will travel through one of the last untouched wildernesses on the planet.

During the 72-day journey the team will document, film, and share their experiences. The history of exploration on Ellesmere Island combines the celebrated polar traditions of Norway, the United States, and Canada. Ellesmere Island also represents a great responsibility moving forward, how society exploits this region and others like it will reveal a great deal about the future of modern civilization. Through well-considered educational and media outreach the expedition team will tell the fascinating story of heroic historic achievement, present-day adventure, and an unknown future.
