Michael Edwards

Michael Edwards, otherwise known as DJ Michael Red is a music producer,performer, live p.a. artist, DJ, event producer, promoter, and curator.Having lived in Vancouver since 1998, Michael has made his mark in local scene as an electronic music artist, dj, and event organizer, working tirelessly to promote, network, and help build the more "fringe" Vancouver electronic music community.

Michael's performances with Tagaq are less scripted than they may seem.Using the program 'Ableton Live' on a laptop with various other electronics,Michael triggers pre-made loops and sound snippets, mix's Tagaq's voice, and sends both signals through various FX in an highly improvised manor. The choice of what sounds to trigger and what FX to use are determined "in the moment", and oftentimes, Michael will sample Tagaq's voice live to warp and morph echos of her throat singing in the background. All of Michael music and sounds are original creations, a lot being sourced from sounds originally created by Tagaq and from sounds collected from her hometown of Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.
