Interview with Dana Moraes and Graham Richard

“Of course I’m interested in any kind of thing that pushes Haida culture into the new centuries.”

“[Atanarjuat] portraits real authentic story from the Nations it was from. It kind of gives you an idea about of how you can represent your culture on the screen.”

“I think it's most important that the Haida people can watch this film moving into the future. That’s what most important because in order to save our language we have to have all sorts of different angles of attack. We are teaching kids, we are teaching elders to learn it their owns, to speak it in their own, we are teaching parents to talk to their kids. And what better way to do it than to sit down and watch a movie with all your friends and family speaking to each other in three different dialects of Haida?”

"Really what the film did is really kind of pumped me up to get more involved in the day to day education that is needed."

"The way things work here is if you are not doing them maybe nobody is doing it. So you really got to sit up if you really care about something."

"My biggest hope for it is that it's a teaching tool to go into the future of our culture. That is an in-house language tool for anyone who wants to learn our language."

"I thought it would be a really good experience learning how to speak X̱aaydaa Kil [Haida] and I thought it would be fun"

"It's so culturally involved and an inspiration for other Nations to do it."

"I think most people here would probably watch it by private showings."
