Video project about the Calabash International Literary Poetry Festival, in Jamaica 2007

Movie 46:00 minutes

Language: English (english subtitles)

The festival takes place every year in May in the beautiful Treasure Beach on the southside of Jamaica.

With strong perceptions about what roots and belonging mean in a globalised world, the participating poets, actors and writers dazzle and enchant with their original words and opinions.

The theme evolves around history and identity in the post colonial societies around the world.

The video holds clips from the readings and performances by the prominent poets Roger Gueveneur Smith (US) with 'who killed Bob Marley...'. Linda Susan Jackson (US), Patricia Smith (US), Elisabeth Alexander (US) under the title 'America the Beautiful'. The Afternoon Delight with Kendel Hippolyte (JA) Terrance Hayes (US) and Gabeba Baderoon (SA).
