The opening of the Symposium after many months of preparation; Martha Michaels, an Elder from Iqaluit demonstrated the lighting of the qulliq with her daugther, Ann Henson, her grand daughter and her great grand daughter at her side. Synopsis:Well, this one was a small herd Joan said, between 1000 and 2000 caribous roaming the tundra in front of Baker Lake; obviously we bothered them with the helicopter as we were trying to reach our camping spot. This is a reason why people are worried about more mining activities around Baker Lake.

Segment 1: Political discussion of dividing the Northwest Territory on April 14, 1982. Mark Kalluak, Luke Suluk and David Owingayark from Arviat are explaining the process. Some community members also talk about division.
Qimaivvik was a cultural show produced in Baker Lake or Igloolik, but included segments from all of IBC’s centres. Topics included: storytelling, hunting and sewing techniques, legends, language, and other traditional practices such as igloo building, etc.

Segment 1: Maani Ulujuk High School students in Rankin Inlet are fundraising for a trip to Vancouver.
Segment 2: People enjoy the spring weather in Rankin Inlet and ice fishing. This was a fishing derby to raise funds for the students’ trip to Vancouver, B.C.
Segment 1: Bill Kashla is the chairperson of the Kivalliq Divisional Board of Education. They are holding a meeting in Arviat. The chairperson gives a report on the educational activities in the region.
Segment 1: Arviat Inuit Summer games. Children swim outdoors, ATV race and some women participate in a bannock making contest. Students play outdoors at recess time in winter.
The Inuit Broadcasting Corporation provides a window to the Arctic by producing award-winning television programming by Inuit, for Inuit. Created in the late 1970's, IBC is, indeed, Nunavut’s public producer. IBC does not produce the regular fare of TV sitcoms and talk shows.… Leer más
